We are offering a COLOR COPY of Greeley-Carlson 1884 Atlas Page - Small Pox Hospital of Chicago, that was located [at the time] at the corner of 26th Street & California Avenue, where now is the Cook County's Sheriff's Office, Courthouse & Jail. SUCH AN IMPORTANT HISTORICAL PLAT MAP! This atlas page is a plat map, prepared by one of our predecessors.
According to our research, the "Small Pox Hospital" was later re-named "Municipal Contagious Disease Hospital" and in 1916 an additional building was built; the newer, 1916 map of this hospital we listed separately.
Also, the same atlas page shows the Bridewell, a Chicago Jail, which originally was built in 1852 in Chicago's downtown at Polk and Wells Streets. In 1871, just months before the Great Chicago Fire, the Bridewell was moved to a new larger building at 26th and California, and officially renamed "The Chicago House of Corrections".
This Atlas Of Chicago was updated numerous times since it's publication and has lots of surveying indexing & notes. History of Chicago at your fingertips! The size is appr. 19" x 20". Clearly dated 1884.
