We are offering a COLOR COPY of another advertisement map of part of East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana.
According to my research, this area was developed over several years and many RE Agents & Developers were trying to sell properties in the area.
This map does NOT show the harbor. It shows a proposed ship canal [waterways] from the Lake Michigan to the Calumet River, that’s why I believe that this map was created sometime between 1901 and 1903, before completion of the ship canal.
It is a beautiful plat map, prepared by Frederick Rossiter [who was the Deputy Lake County Surveyor at the time] and published by the “W. J. Hayne Company, Printers & Engravers, with the address of 423 Dearborn St., Chicago”. Lots of properties, both, commercial & residential are highlighted in pink as already sold.
It shows the land between: 141st Street & 151st Street and White Oak Avenue & proposed Canal. Also, it shows the vicinity map and information about the area, etc.
This map has lots of surveyors’ notes & indexing from projects completed in the area. It was backed on fabric and is in good condition.
This is a large map, appr. 24" x 37.5".
