We are offering a COLOR COPY of advertisement map of Indiana Harbor, East Chicago, Indiana. It is a beautiful 2-sided plat map, made of 2 original drawings, for advertisement of properties for sale near the new harbor.
It shows: 167 Blocks with Lots for sale; a list of working Factories with the number of workers; information about the town of East Chicago and the railroads, that are established in the area; also shown are locations of existing businesses, such as: Inland Steel Co., Indiana Harbor Navigation Co., American Steel Foundries, Co., Standard Forging Company, Ward Dickey Steel Company, etc. This map was created for the East Chicago Company, John R. Favorid, Co, Exclusive Agents.
On the back side, there is a vicinity map [called "Calumet District"], showing: a Southeast part of Chicago with Lake Calumet + Hyde Lake +Wolf Lake & South Chicago, Hegewisch & Calumet Park NBHDs; on Indiana side of the border, it shows Wolf Lake & Lake George, Lakeside Race Track, Whiting, Hammond, West Hammond, East Chicago, Indiana Harbor, Standard Oil Company [I believe, it's now known as BP], Waterways canal, built from Lake Michigan to Calumet River. Lots of railroads are shown on both sides of this unique map.
As all other our maps & plats, this one has surveyor's indexing markings & notes from various surveying projects, completed in the area.
This map was printed on cheap, thin, yellowish paper, it was kept folded in a very old wood file cabinet - there are some splitting at folds.
This is very large map, appr. 28" x 35". Clearly dated 1903.
