​​​​​​We are offering a COLOR COPY of the Map used for Land Dispute Court Case of part of the Main Township [TWSP] in Niles, IL [a.k.a. Fractional Section 11-41-12], which shows the entire Section, bounded by Golf Road + West of Milwaukee Ave. + Central Road, from 1917 by [one of our predecessors] Mr. Edgar A. Rossiter, Registered Surveyor. 
The importance of this map is twofold: 
 
(a) not to make a lengthy explanation of a complicated issue - it shows that the Original Government Surveyors, who initially measured the land in the U.S.A., made a mistake measuring this area [due to primitive instruments, bad terrain, etc.], so, this entire Township overall, and, specifically, this Section 11 came up much shorter than they should have been by original plans [for details, please see the sketch in the upper right corner that shows uneven quarters: the bottom ones are 160 ac each, the top ones are less than 90 ac each], and 
 
(b) accompanying letter from Mr. Dale McLaughlin c/o Glenview Realty Co., and a letter from Mr. Edgar A. Rossiter, certifying that he based his Survey upon finding Original Section Corners & Original Quarter Section Corners, set by the Original Government Surveyors in stones [evidenced on this map]; and, also, stating that this Map & Certification, according to the Illinois' Laws must be admitted in court as Prima-Fecia Evidence. We believe, Mr. Rossiter was retired [living in Florida] when this land boundary dispute occurred, so, our father, Earl M. Smith [Illinois Land Surveyor # 108] became involved with this matter.
Totally unique historical piece.
