We are offering a COLOR COPY of an antique ANTE-FIRE 1855 hand drafted Plan of WINNETKA, IL, showing the territory of the Village of Winnetka as it was ORIGINALLY planned in 1855. This map does NOT list names of streets, so, my research shows that the territory of the original Village of Winnetka was bounded by: Pine Street on the North + Lake Michigan on the East + Willow Road on the South + Locust Avenue on the West, less than half of the current Village boundaries! Please notice that ALL of the Village's properties were planned to be of acreage parcels!
It is a hand drafted plan, prepared by one of the early Surveyors of the Chicago Metropolitan area.
As everyone in the industry knows, most of the plat maps & maps [from Cook County Recorder’s of Deeds Office & private archive] burned in the Great Chicago Fire. Finding any copies of the ANTE-FIRE maps/plat maps or documents is rare. THIS IS TOTALLY UNIQUE!
This copy was made a long time ago on the imported from Great Brittan paper [according to a watermark], which was very expensive & was used only for rare, important maps!
The size is appr. 12" x 23.5". Clearly dated.
